Applications for entry in September 2026
There is no entrance exam for our Sixth Form, but students need to achieve grade 6 at GCSE in at least 5 subjects, and grade 6 in the subjects they wish to study at A level. They also need to achieve grade 4 in English and Maths. The document below has further details for individual subjects.
Before you apply we encourage you to visit our Sixth Form at our Sixth Form Open Evening in November: talk with our teachers and meet our Year 12 and 13 students so that you can see what is so special about LGGS Sixth Form. We then have our Taster Day in January, when you can spend the day in school and try out the subjects you are thinking of taking at A-level. Taster Day in 2026 will be on Tuesday 20th January.
This is for students who will be in Year 11 or Year 10 in the autumn of 2025, who are looking ahead to their A-level studies. It is an exciting opportunity to visit our Sixth Form, talk to our staff and students, and get a feel for our school. You will be shown around by one of our current Sixth Form students and will be able to ask any questions that you may have about life at LGGS Sixth Form.
The Open Evening starts at 5.30 pm, with talks in the Centenary Hall from the Head of Sixth Form at 5.45, 6.15 and 6.45. The evening will finish at 7.30pm.
Our Open Evening will be on Thursday 6th November 2025 betwen 5.30 and 7.30pm. You will be able to hear talks from the Head of Sixth Form at 5.45, 6.15 and 6.45 as well as visiting all our departments and talking to current Sixth Form students.
Please complete your application using Applicaa: https://lggs.applicaa.com/year12
If you change your mind about your subject choices after you have applied, you can go back into your Applicaa account and make changes yourself.
Our application deadline is 27th January 2026.
If you want to make changes after our application deadline then you will need to contact us on sixthform@lggs.lancs.sch.uk and tell us what changes you would like to make. At this stage you would first need to check that the subjects you would like to study work with our option blocks.
After you submit your application form you will be made a provisional offer. This will be subject to your meeting our general entrance requirements and any additional subject-specific requirements.
All students who apply to our Sixth Form from schools other than LGGS have an Advice and Guidance Meeting during the Spring Term with a senior member of staff where we discuss with you your A-level subject choices. This is an informal meeting which is intended to ensure you make the right choices and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. This meeting will be held online, for your convenience.
You will also be invited to our Sixth Form Induction Day on Thursday 26th June 2026, after the GCSE exams. This will be a great opportunity to meet other students and get to know the Sixth Form staff.
On GCSE Results Day we will confirm your enrolment and discuss any subject changes with you. If you would like to discuss your application or require further information please do not hesitate to contact us at:
