Let’s get Physical! The Physical Education curriculum at LGGS aims to foster a holistic approach to health and well-being by integrating physical and mental wellness, knowledge acquisition, skill development, and the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles. This curriculum is designed to empower students to lead balanced lives, equipped with the tools required to maintain their physical and mental health throughout their lifetime.

Students will engage in a variety of physical activities that improve fitness components including cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and agility, as well as develop their lifeskills such as resilience, perseverance, confidence, teamwork and problem solving.

A diverse range of sports and activities will be provided to develop tactical and strategic thinking, as well as various motor skills. A variety of both individual and team sports are delivered, to cater to different interests and abilities.

Course Overview

What can I do to support my child?

Encourage your child to be as physically active as possible. Allow them to be involved in a variety of different activities. This might be in the form of organised, structured sessions at a local club or facility, or could simply be in the house, garden or park. Encourage your child to watch different sports and activities, to gain a greater understanding of them.

Your child can find information on the internet about all sports, including the ones we cover in lessons and in extra-curricular clubs. A starting point would be the governing body websites or there are many other websites available. Some examples are:

How will students be assessed?

At the end of each unit of work, pupils will be assessed in their skills, knowledge, understanding and performance in that sport.

Key Stage 4 (GCSE)

Exam Board and details

Exam Board: AQA GCSE Physical Education (8582)

Course Overview

The course aims to build on the knowledge and skills learned and developed during KS3 core PE, through both theoretical and practical lessons. Topics include: Applied anatomy and physiology, movement analysis, physical training, sports psychology, socio-cultural influences, health, fitness and well-being and the use of data

How will students be assessed?

The assessment for GCSE PE, consists of 2 external exams, both of which are 1 hour and 15 minutes, marked out of 78 and worth 30% of the final mark.

Students are also assessed practically in 3 different sports, 1 must be an individual activity, 1 must be a team activity and the 3rd can be either individual or team. They must also complete an analysis and evaluation of performance in one of their sports, in order to bring about improvement.

Exam Board: AQA A Level Physical Education 7582

Course Overview

The course has both theoretical and practical elements. Topics included in the theory element are applied anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition, sport and society, exercise physiology, biomechanical movement, sport psychology, the role of technology in physical activity and sport.

How will students be assessed?

The assessment for GCSE PE, consists of 2 external exams, both of which are 2 hours, marked out of 105 and worth 35% of the final mark.

Students are also assessed practically in a sport of their choice in the role of either performer or coach. They must also complete an analysis and evaluation of performance.
