Lancaster Girls' Grammar School's Governing Body is made up of the following members, who bring considerable expertise and knowledge to the governance of the school. 

The committees meet at least termly, and there are six full Governing Body Meetings each academic year.

Chair of Governors and member of the Finance
and Audit Committee

Sarah is a former pupil and parent of daughter at
LGGS. Graduated from Jesus College Oxford with a
degree in Engineering.
Director of Commercial Banking for NatWest working
locally in Cumbria, Lancaster and the Fylde coast. 

Sue hodgson


Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of Academic Committee
and member of the Finance and Audit Committee

I have been involved with the school as a parent
of two former pupils and as a Governor for the
last 25 years. I have always encouraged girls to
achieve their potential in school and in their
careers and hope that my skills in my professional
life as a Solicitor in a local practice (recently retired)
assist me in my role on the Governing body
at LGGS. 

Mrs Amanda Morgan


Member of Students, Parents and Community Committee

I currently work as the HR and Communications Manager
at Beetham Paper Mill, and as well as core HR I am
also responsible for managing the internal and external communications plan, diversity and inclusion plan and interestingly the Health and Well-being plan. 
I have two daughters at LGGS. 

Randall Paley


Appointed Governor in 2011.  Chair of Finance Committee.

Graduated from Nottingham University with a degree
in English Studies. Qualified Chartered Accountant -
trained with KPMG in London and a Fellow of the
Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA). 
Director of Finance at Lancaster University with
a £200M turnover.  Also, Director of North West
Universities Purchasing Consortium. Married
with one son.  

Dr Alison Palmer


Member on the Academic Committee  

I have two daughters at LGGS.

I qualified with a degree in medicine from the
University of Birmingham in 1995. I then undertook
further training to qualify as a General Practitioner.
I currently work as a GP Partner and qualified
GP Trainer at a practice in Lytham St Annes.

Leanne Sharples


Staff Governor and a member of the Health and S
afety Committee. 

An old girl of LGGS Sixth Form and appointed T
eacher of PE and Schools Sports Coordinator in 2009. Currently Head of PE Department and part of the
Teaching and Learning working party. My main focus
at LGGS is building resilience and aspirations across ~all years and personalities.

Julia Stables


Staff Governor and member of the Students, Parents and
Community Committee

I have worked at LGGS since 2007 and have been
a staff governor since 2013. I am also an alumna.
My role in school is Assistant to the Heads of Sixth Form, supporting both dedicated staff and talented and compassionate students, a job that I thoroughly enjoy. 

Richard Taylor


Chair of the Buildings Committee, member of the Health and Safety Committee and the Strategy Committee.

Self-employed Chartered Surveyor. Graduated from Liverpool Polytechnic more years ago than he cares to remember.

Alison Whittaker


Chair of the Students, Parents and Community Committee

As an old girl of LGGS, parent of former pupil and daughter of a former pupil, my family have a long association with the school. I became a governor in 1998, worked for National Westminster Bank for ten years.
After a career break, become involved in education working in several schools as a school secretary. Have also served on the IT committee, Health and Safety committee and the Sixth Form Centre Fundraising committee.

Gill R


I qualified as Chartered Physiotherapist from the
University of Liverpool in 1997. I have primarily worked
in the NHS and within academia, teaching physiotherapy.
I undertook a fellowship at Health Education England
and am now Assistant Director for Education and
Workforce at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
I am in the final stages of a PhD exploring health
I have three children; two boys and a daughter who
attends LGGS.



Member of the Academic Committee

I read Law at the University of Liverpool and later
qualified as a solicitor. I head a legal practice in
Greater Manchester focusing on business strategy,
day to day management and operations as well
specialising in employment law, regulatory and
compliance matters.
I have a daughter currently in year 8 at LGGS.



I am an ‘old girl’ of LGGS, and both my daughters now
attend the school.
I currently work for BAE Systems as a Head Of Human Resources, having worked in a number of industries in HR/Employee Relations roles.
I did my undergraduate degree at Newcastle University, and have subsequently undertaken postgraduate qualifications in HR, and a Masters degree in Industrial Relations and Employment Law.
