Welcome from the Head Student

Head Student 2022-23

Dear year 6 student,

Choosing where to start the next step of your school journey is a huge decision and I know it can seem scary, but LGGS supports you to help complete this stage of your life and put you in the best place for what comes next. Year seven is all about trying new things, learning new subjects, and meeting new friends. It might take a few weeks to get used to the changes but soon you’ll be feeling settled and comfortable finding your way around and enjoying your time here.

I know when I started, I was nervous about making new friends but something that really helped me feel at home was the house system. It meant I met new people while taking part in activities I had never done before. I got to try sports, music, and dancing in interhouse competitions like the Performing Arts Festival while talking to students from all different year groups. There’s no better way to make friends than to get stuck in! LGGS helps you do this by offering a wide range of extracurricular activities so there is something for everyone. Some of my favourite school memories are from my times representing the school in sports and music with my friends – if I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to get involved in as many things as possible.

The sense of community and belonging at LGGS has helped me truly enjoy my time here. The teachers are so friendly and welcoming and help you to adapt to life in a new school. You might come across obstacles and things you find hard but know that the staff and students are here to help and it’s always best to ask if you’re feeling unsure.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself! Year 7 is an exciting year full of changes and new beginnings, so make the most of it, work hard, meet new people, and have fun!

Frances
