Pupil Premium Entitlement 2021

Our aim is to make Lancaster Girls’ Grammar school as open and inclusive as possible to all children. The school prioritises pupils eligible for Pupil Premium in its admissions’ policy and wishes to support those pupils and families when they join LGGS.

We appreciate that pupils may travel longer than the average distance to school in order to access a selective education so we provide some support with transport costs. Our main aims in using the funds are to ensure that pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding have equal access to the opportunities available to every pupil in our school and are supported so that they can achieve at the very highest standard.

If your child is currently eligible, a free school meal will be provided through our cashless catering system.  For any child offered a place at LGGS (i.e. who has been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years) we will provide:

  • Help towards the cost of school uniform. In Year 7 all reasonable uniform costs can be met through Pupil Premium. This includes school sports kit and specialist equipment e.g. lab coat. Year 7 pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium have a fund of £180 to spend at our uniform suppliers. The fund can also be used to top up items of uniform eg new skirts, maroon jumper in KS4.
  • Free essential equipment for lessons –the pack to start Year 7, which includes a calculator, art materials etc is provided free.
  • Free essential school trips – which are part of your child’s education will be free, e.g. trips to theatres, museums and field trips which form part of teaching subjects in the curriculum. This does not apply to extra-curricular trips e.g. ski trips, etc.
  • One free residential trip -This is usually the Year 7 French trip which will help develop independence and friendship.
  • Free lessons in school to learn to play a musical instrument.
  • A free book whenever we have a visiting author for the year group.
  • Free Revision Guides which are purchased by the school
  • Support with the cost of the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award enrolment
  • Help with transport. There is a cap of £350 on the support we can fund for the annual cost of transport. Parents are asked to seek the most cost effective way of travel to school eg a monthly ticket or season ticket.

Once we have confirmed that you child is eligible and you wish them to benefit from the entitlement then assistance is given automatically with the minimum of fuss. If you have any queries please contact the Headteacher, Mrs Cahalin, directly or Mrs Mason, School Business Manager.

There is also much additional support at LGGS which is available to all pupils as required and prioritised for students in receipt of Pupil Premium,. This includes

  • Counselling services
  • Breakfast and Homework Club
  • Learning Mentor support
  • Individual or Family support with our Coordinator of Well Being
  • Revision classes.
