Welcome from Mrs Mason

Suzanne Mason

A warm welcome to LGGS for those starting with us soon

I remember very clearly my first day at LGGS as a teacher here, wondering what it was going to be like to work at a Grammar School. One of my first memories was walking into school and students and staff smiling at me in welcome.  It was clear that there is a very warm family atmosphere here: we look after each other and support each other in lots of ways. This is one of the best academic schools in the country, and it is also one of the best for the opportunities that you will have.

You will quickly find that the school is actually quite small for a high school. It has been extended over the years and each part of the school is very distinctive, so it doesn’t take long to find your way around. I got lost on my first day and a helpful Year 8 showed me where to go.

There are so many things to get involved in here. We have inter-house competitions, the four Houses are Aalborg, Perpignan, Rendsburg and Lublin - they are all towns that are twinned with Lancaster. Another great event is International Week (my personal favourite is the international food fair!). This event is fantastic as we have pupils with links to different parts of the world and it is fun to learn about other cultures. We also have many events that involve dressing up, that includes the staff. I have been Cruella de Vil and Einstein too!

There are so many clubs and sports that you can get involved in, so whether you are an artist, sportsperson or into music there is something for you – most run on a lunchtime, you may find that you are spoiled for choice here!

We have girls starting from very many primary schools and many of you are the only one from your school. This may be something that may be worrying you. My advice is to be yourself, to chat to people and before you know it you will have made a strong group of friends, some friendships that are made here last for a lifetime!

I am sure that you are going to have a great time whilst at LGGS. We are very excited to meet you and hope that you are equally excited about joining us, and becoming part of the LGGS community!
