Why LGGS

What our previous students' think

The last 12 months have been a rollercoaster to say the least. Lockdown has meant that a lot of the responsibilities that past Sixth-Form Leadership Teams have taken on, and that I so looked forward to tackling, haven’t applied. I know this year’s Team was so excited for end of year Prom, the Performing Arts Festival, Musical Festival, Sports Day and so much more.
But there is a silver lining to every cloud and I think amid the trials and tribulations of COVID, our roles within the Head Girl Team have allowed us to build even stronger relationships within the school community. It was always extremely important to me personally that I was a friendly face in the corridors and offered advice to lower years wherever I could. It meant so much whenever other students felt able to share their worries with the Team, so that we could help maintain the already strong communication between LGGS staff and students. And I have to say that my teachers have been incredibly supportive. So, although I haven’t overseen lots of large school events this last year, I’ve felt more connected to, and proud to have been a part of, LGGS more than ever before.

LGGS has provided me with an amazing 6 years, and I could not dream of a more outstanding school for not only my educational journey but also to prepare myself for the wider world.
LGGS clearly stands out for its outstanding academic results, but for me it is so more than this.  In an all-female pupil community, it is not an accident that LGGS has such a nurturing environment, and in what is still a male dominated world LGGS provides a platform for female empowerment, helping us to become strong, ambitious and independent women with the sky as our limit.  I feel the first line of our school song “in our small world upon the hill” epitomises what LGGS is all about.  I liken it to one big family, and cherish being part of this community.  There are endless examples of intermingling and friendships between year groups which strengthen this close knit community feel, underpinned by our mentoring systems and cross-year opportunities such as Performing Arts Festival.
LGGS has an ethos like no other, every single girl here wants to be the very best they can be and are encouraged to support each other.  We are all so excited to learn, ambitious and strive for the best.  Therefore, we all continue to thrive off each other and the countless opportunities which come our way.  The support system here is also second to none, from Form tutors and heads of year, to pupil mentors and student led societies there is always a helping hand available whenever one is needed.
The results for LGGS speak for themselves.  Although LGGS is so much more than purely academic, everything that makes the school so unique is clearly a winning formula for academic success. There are countless amazing qualities that make LGGS second to none, and therefore for all the reasons noted above for me, LGGS is so much more than just a school.
