WELCOME TO LGGS

The aim of pastoral provision is to ensure the emotional, social and academic wellbeing of the pupils.
Form teachers hold the first key role in providing universal support for pupils. Additional and extended support is then co-ordinated by the Heads of Key Stage and can involve school members of staff and external agencies. We can offer a range of counselling, listening and support services utilising specialist skills of pastoral staff, counsellors and health services. Educational and information sessions are also offered via a comprehensive programme of PSHE which covers and includes relationship, sexual health and wellbeing issues.
The peer mentoring programme (6-2-7) supports pupils in transition from primary year 6 to secondary education and involves current year 10 students working with the new intake pupils at the start of each academic year.  In addition year 10 and 11 students mentor younger students from years 7 to 9 who benefit from low key support  for issues ranging from organisation skills to friendship problems.  This can be provided via individual mentoring meetings or by class buddies visiting form groups on a regular but informal basis. Peer mentors are closely supported by the assistant head, KS3 who also co ordinates the training that mentors require to fulfil this role.
Pastoral issues are co-ordinated by the Deputy with pastoral responsibility who is also Designated Senior Person (DSP) for any safeguarding issues.
Key stage heads also monitor academic progress and facilitate the provision of staff academic mentors working with individual students to agree and support targets for improvement.
