International Week at LGGS

The sumptuous delights of the International Food fair kicked off this year's international week, where pupils and parents prepared dishes from all around the world (and the rest of us sampled them!).

Then came year 8's day, where they learnt Indian dance and Portuguese body parts and considered why languages are useful, with guest teachers Professor Jon Whittle, Sue Tyson-Ward and Carys Nelkon's team from Lancaster University.  Wednesday saw year 7 take part in a range of activities, from creating a new 2012 LGGS Olympic banner to singing "My hat it has three corners" in English, German, Norwegian and Portuguese!

International Week 2011

Year 9 chose to watch a film in either Hindi or Japanese, and many students delighted in dressing up in international dress to raise money for the School's World Challenge Ethiopian project. The school has also enjoyed  a host of lunchtime activites, where staff and students have put on language taster sessions, foreign country stalls and workshops.  From Swahili and Xhosa to Geordie and Cornish, there has been something for everyone.  The multicultural mania finished on a high with some outstanding performances of foreign karaoke, notably Hannah Kitching's rendition of "Jueves" by La Oreja de Van Gogh.  A big merci, obrigada, gracias, danke to all who helped and participated!
