Hockey at LGGS - Autumn Term 2011

Kirkham Match reports

B Team
It was a really close match and both teams battled from the word go! We were all thrilled with the result, even though we had a few chances thanks to E. Dodd and V. Mills, who later was appointed man of the match.  J. Mc Donald and R. Stefani had a very close goal attempt as well after a short corner and never gave up! Kirkham came close but after a great debut from M. Accutt in goal they didn’t have the opportunity to score. I guess you could say we were the underdogs but the support was great both on and off the pitch with the parents cheering us on from the side lines. H. Walling made a great save in the second half when a Kirkham Girl was speeding towards her but with help from I. Cross they managed to clear it. I think everyone would agree it was a very exciting, fantastic and memorable match. Well done LGGS B team!

A  Team
On Saturday 19th November LGGS played Kirkham Grammar at a hockey match. We knew it was going to be a tough match. Kirkham won the toss up and chose first centre pass. Kirkham started off strong, with some good passes and quick running Kirkham managed to weave their way through our defenders and score a powerful goal just managing to get past K. Tuer. From our centre pass, C. Hicks dribbled the ball up and passed to C. Gornall to shoot, a good pass from Hicks. Unfortunately Kirkham took possession of the ball and managed to take it up field a shoot scoring another goal, 2-0. We then managed to get the ball up to the D and shoot with E. Brown taking a good shot, which unfortunately was stopped by the goalie. Kirkham then had lots of chances, meaning the score at after the first 20 minutes was 5-0 to Kirkham Grammar.
We started at 0-0 again after half time. After a thorough team talk at half time we were much stronger in the second half. Starting of strong, we managed to get the ball off Kirkham and take the ball up to shoot, with C. Hicks just narrowly missing the corner and the goalie managed to save the ball once again. In the second half, we had lots of chances but unfortunately for us they were well defended. Kirkham managed to score three goals in the second half despite some excellent defending from M. Hughes, O. Cottam and I. Crawley, who prevented them from scoring any further goals. Well done defenders. The final score by the end of the match was 7-0 a disappointing result but some very good hockey was played! Thank you and well done team! Our player of the match was K. Tuer.
