Music Trip to Wernigerode
At 00:05 on Sunday 18th October some very excited musical girls joined Mr Truslove, Mr Whitfield, Mrs Richardson and Mrs Redman to board a coach to Dover and begin their journey to Germany, arriving in the evening the following day.
The journey was tiresome but the rest of the week was so thrilling that it made up for how tedious the journey had been! We stayed with host families in Wernigerode, a beautiful little town in the east of Germany, which gave us a wonderful experience of German lifestyle as well as improving our German. We had rehearsals almost every day and also did some sightseeing. We got the opportunity to visit Leipzig and see various churches where Johann Sebastian Bach worked, in addition to seeing his grave – a wonderful moment for many of us! The choir sang a piece of Mendelssohn’s music in St Thomas’ Church (where both Bach and Mendelssohn worked). This sounded magical in the church – definitely an experience we will never forget! The week ended with concerts in which both the band and choir performed, which were extremely enjoyable events. Although this is the second time that I have been on this trip, it was just as fantastic as the first time I went. To end on a good note (!), I am so glad there are such wonderful opportunities as this at LGGS and I would recommend exchanges to everyone!
