LGGS Pupil’s ‘Plinth’ Success!
S Bown, year 7, gained two minutes’ of fame on Saturday 3rd October, 2009 when she was chosen to have her poem,
‘Autumn Time’ read out as part of the Anthony Gormley live art phenomenon in Trafalgar Square, London.

Paul Sample, one of Britain’s leading PR and Marketing Consultants in the state and private school market, was delighted to be one of the 2400 applicants chosen to spend an hour on the infamous Anthony Gormley’s ‘Fourth Plinth’ as part of the
‘One and Other’ project.  He decided to read students’ work of poetry and prose from across the country during his 3-4:00am
slot, and S Bown was chosen from hundreds of competition entrants!  It was a delight to mark National Poetry Day at LGGS
with this celebration of talent and the beauty of poetry in
describing everyday life.  Click here for poem.
The English Department’s VLE Poetry Day project had pupils and staff sharing their favourite poems, composing their own pieces on the ‘Heroes and Heroines’ theme for this year and writing cross-curricular haiku in all subject areas.

A panel of Sixth Form and English teaching staff judges will be choosing the best poems, cross-curricular haiku and forum contributions for special certificates and prizes.
The English Department wish to thank the school for its enthusiastic support and encouragement in celebrating poetry, and its place in our everyday lives.
