How Parents Can Help
History comes alive in fiction and film. There are so many good historical novels to read!
Parents can also keep an eye on progress through the course and through the GCSE grades via the progress sheets held in the front of the History file. For easy detection progress sheets for year 10 are green and for year 11 are pink.
Our GCSE History course is the AQA Board; Modern World History, Syllabus B. The outline of the teaching content is listed below. There are two examinations for this qualification all undertaken in the summer of Year 11and one Controlled Assignment.
Homework
Homework in years 10 and 11 consists of either the maintenance of notes and tasks that give confidence in knowledge and understanding or GCSE exam question work.
Testing and Assessment
All GCSE exam question work is marked right from the beginning of year 10 according to the GCSE grade outcomes of A* to E. Students can find the jump to this standard difficult but a Level 7 or 8 at Key Stage 3 is exceedingly good preparation and they quickly appreciate the focus of the exam technique.
Text books
The core GCSE text is given to students at the start of the course. Other texts are then released as we go along, some in temporary form others to take away until the end of the course. The History Department Virtual Learning Environment is a vital stopping off point for materials and information.
Paper 2
