Testing and Assessment From the outset of the course all work is assessed in A Level grades. This can be a big jump from GCSE as the assessment criteria are very different. We encourage our students to be patient for steady and sure grade changes and to trust us to give good advice. Lots of reading will be needed.
Text books Q uite literally a wheel barrow full! Reading is essential in this course and we have a generous selection of books to offer our candidates. Alongside this there is a personal on-line subscription to History Today magazine for each student. This is an archive of academic history articles from the 1980s to the present day.
How Parents Can Help The 5 hours homework a week is the key to success in this subject. Alongside this the year 13 candidates need to stay on top of their Personal Study assignment; keeping an eye
on the progress of this can be
very helpful.
At A Level we study the AQA Syllabus Units 1 and 2 will be assessed in the summer of the Lower Sixth and Units 3 and 4 in the summer of the Upper Sixth. History A Level is an exciting and challenging course; an excellent preparation for the independent skills required both at university and in the work place.
We will be following the theme of Heroes and Villains. The teaching for this unit begins in Year 12 on return from AS Study Leave in June. At this stage we will model the process of choosing and investigation a hero or villain by looking at two case studies.
