At LGGS we are committed to encouraging all pupils to have a healthy lifestyle and this can only come about through education.
During KS3 and KS4, important topics relating to Health are covered in a variety of ways. Some topics are covered within Citizenship lessons, eg “Changes during Puberty” Year 7 whilst other topics are taught within relevant lessons. Biology and Food Technology teach “Healthy Eating” and “Effects of Alcohol”. Certain topics are covered by discrete Health sessions that are delivered off-timetable, including “Drugs Education” in both Years 7 and 10, “Relationships” in Years 8 and 10, and “Mental Health” in Year 9. This usually involves outside agencies delivering these sessions.
Throughout all the topics covered, an emphasis is put on empathy, group work and evaluation of current views and opinions. We aim to improve pupil life skills and abilities, building confident & healthy members of society.
