Technology

Technology is involved in a wide variety of competitions and events. Teams from LGGS have competed in the annual F1 In Schools competition for six years, reaching the National Finals on two occasions. This year will see the third entry into the Toyota Rapid Challenge, where agian an LGGS team has reached the National Finals. A team from each Key Stage has entered the local Rotary Challenge in each of the last two years. This is a one-day problem solving activity. In 2004, an LGGS team were victorious in the Key Stage 4 section.

Other pupils have competed in the Young Architects competition with considerable success. This event is again annual. LGGS has had county and city success in the Young Chef of the year competition, winning at Key Stage 3 in 2006 and at Key Stage 4 in 2005. Over 20 pupils annually complete the food hygeine course which is a nationally recognised qualification, the activity taking place during lunchtime. All years 8 and 9 gain Sainbury's Taste of Success Awards through Food Technology.

Sixth Form students have been entered for Young Consumer's competition, while 3 girls spent a week at Cranfield on an International Arerospace Summer School - LGGS were the 'British' team.

There are also visits by year 8 to the National Space Centre in Leicester and by year 11, 12 and 13 Systems students to the Annual Faraday lecture of the IET.

The above give a good flavour of what is available as an aspect of the Technology specialism. The list is by no means comprehensive and the large amount of out-of-schooltime effort devoted to examination revision and coursework needs to be included.
