Curriculum Enrichment Department

General studies is an important part of academic studies at LGGS. Every sixth form student spends one afternoon per week participating in an enrichment activity. This will help them to develop skills beyond their AS and A2 subject skills.

In Year 12 there are a number of options which provide the students with the opportunity to gain qualifications and new skills, to study new languages and to participate in activities that are community based. It also includes sessions on completing the UCAS form, Personal statements for the UCAS form and GAP year opportunities.

In Year 13 every student participates in lessons that will help prepare them for the General Studies AS and A2 examinations. The examination tests general knowledge and your ability to apply this to unfamiliar situations. The course allows a student to broaden their post-16 education by reinforcing and enhancing the subjects studied up to GCSE and then being followed at AS/A level. It also encourages thinking across specialist subjects to broaden a student’s academic experience by allowing them to explore cultural, scientific and social domains.
