Lancaster Girls' Grammar School
Pastoral Care KS3 - Years 7-9

We aim to ensure the emotional, social and academic well-being of the pupils.
Form tutors play a key part in this and their work is supported and coordinated
by the Head of Key Stage 3 (Mrs Mason) and the Assistant Head of Key Stage 3
(Mrs Miller).

We regularly meet with form tutors to monitor pupils’ progress. If pupils are causing concern, we will meet with the pupils and, if necessary, their parents, to resolve any issues. There is a part-time counsellor and a school nurse who are available for individual appointments with girls. The school counsellor also runs a ‘confidence’ group for years 7 to 9 and the school nurse helps the Head of Key Stage 4 to run a girls’ group. We seek

support from other health professionals as required.
There are two peer mentoring systems. One is specifically to help year 7 pupils to make the transition from primary to secondary school and involves year 10 students visiting year 7 forms regularly. The other is a system of one-to-one meetings between a pupil from years 7 to 9 and a student from years 10 or 11; this could be to help resolve problems with organisation or friendship, for example. Part of our role is to monitor the academic progress of pupils and ensure every girl achieves her potential. We have a support programme for anyone whom we think is underachieving, to give advice and encouragement to get her back on track.
