The year 8 pupils have been working on a still-life theme of
tea-cups! The tea-cups have been created under the guidance of Priscilla Jones, owner of the Edge Gallery, King Street.

The students thought it would be easy to bend the wire into a tea cup shape but soon realised that building a construction framework was not that straightforward! They eventually managed to construct some very exciting and creative tea cup shapes: tall coffee cups, elegant china cups and good strong mugs.
The wire teacups have been used as a frame on which to attach decorative trimmings including bric-a-brac, buttons and haberdashery. Sewing, using whipping stitches, was also used as a technique to join buttons, fabric and braids to make these very tactile cups. The students will finish this project by setting the cups in wax.
It was a very exciting project and the whole department benefitted from looking at Priscilla's professional outcomes. If you do not know Priscilla's work, take a look at Edge Gallery, it is worth a visit.
