On Monday 18th January, 2010 a group of 90 Year 9 English and Year 12 Theatre Studies students, accompanied by 10 staff members journeyed to Manchester's Lowry Theatre to experience the hair-raising play, 'The Woman in Black'.
Adapted from Susan Hill's novel of the same name, students were eager and intrigued to witness a text they have studied as part of their KS3 English curriculum transformed into the drama form. It is safe to say that none were disappointed! Suspense-filled action and terrifying special effects had the whole theatre on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
Many thanks go to Mr Ellwood from the English department for organising and coordinating the trip, and to all the staff who accompanied the group. It certainly was a night to remember!
Mrs R Gibson Head of English
"I thought the play was ten times better than the book.
The whole atmosphere was so exciting and the special effects topped it. It fascinated me how cleverly the actors managed to bring the spooky atmosphere to such a small space.
I really felt as if I was actiually in the story."
