Unit 2: Family and Friends/Glasgow
In the second project the students will use photographs of family and friends as an inspiration and focus on another culture. They will learn about a number of artists who use people in their compositions. They will continue to develop an understanding of GCSE objectives. During the summer term students will visit the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art (GOMA) and the Glasgow School of Art and Design and develop a sketchbook independently and continue to complete this in Year 11.
The students will choose their own artists and develop a final outcome from their research.

Unit 3: Refining coursework and mock examination
Students will receive a tutorial based on their work to date and extend and refine their work.
For the mock examination students will receive the previous year’s AQA paper and produce a final piece in 10 hours. This will aim to enhance and extend one of the course work projects and will include a short planning process in their sketchbooks.

Our current Art course at GCSE follows the AQA Examination Board. To follow this course students’ need to draw upon skills acquired during Key Stage 3. Doing this they will enjoy a more independent approach to work and experiment with a variety of materials using digital photography, printmaking, painting, drawing and three-dimensional forms. Although it is not necessary to be highly skilled at drawing to take Art, enthusiasm and commitment is needed to do well.

and an artist in residence.
During the first year the work relates to two prescribed themes. In the second year students have the freedom to allow their interests, curiosity and aptitudes to dictate the focus of their studies.

Year 10
Unit 1: Structures/Cross-Sections/Surfaces
In year 10 students will be introduced to the main objectives in the GCSE art: observation, critical studies, development and final outcome. They will practise drawing from still-life and various close-ups. They will draw using pencils, watercolours, oil pastels, ink washes, charcoal and chalks. They will research artwork and artefacts, which relate to their themes and write a critical analysis of each artist they study. They will annotate their sketchbooks and evaluate their progress as they develop ideas, techniques, methods and processes to develop a final piece. Students will also complete a printing process and use the computer to manipulate their ideas during this theme.

The Art and Design GCSE course also helps students to explore and extend their skills in communication and problem solving. The main skills acquired during the course are those of drawing, observing, analysing, communicating, reviewing, experimenting, designing, making and evaluating.

Self-motivation and personal responsibility are the prime qualities that are developed by this course and students, after mounting their final exhibition, always derive immense satisfaction from seeing what they have achieved.
Some of the highlights of the course are visits to art galleries
