Careers Education

The Careers Education and Guidance programme at LGGS aims to help students develop the skills and confidence to make realistic and informed decisions about their futures for themselves.

The management of the transitions through different stages of their education and the knowledge of future training and employment opportunities is a key part of this programme.

It aims to help students develop self-knowledge and knowledge and understanding of learning and work, in the context of other aspects of life and society. Careers education and guidance is a continuous process, which is delivered in a variety of contexts to all students from Years 7 to 13.

Year 7 and 8

The transition process from Primary to Secondary school is explored in the tutorial programme. In addition to this Year 8 research and present information on specific occupations.

Year 9

Specific careers input is delivered to all students. They explore self and career development as well as the need to make informed choices about options in Years 10 and 11. During Year 9, students are introduced to the school’s careers resource area, which includes a personal account on the CASCAID website.

KS4

During KS4 all students will have a 30 minute Careers interview with Ms Hope our independent IAG professional.

During Year 11 specific careers input is delivered to all students. As part of this programme, a wide range of outside professionals offer their time to come in and give talks. The Year 11 students identify the career areas they are most interested in and select a number of talks to learn more about these areas. When not attending talks, time is offered for private careers research and discussion with the Careers staff during the lessons.

Year 11 get the chance to explore the courses available in Years 12 and 13 on Transition Day and the Sixth Form open evening. We are continually looking for new speakers to come in and give talks and advice to our Year 11 students. If you have the time and would like to come and help, please email: careers@lggs.lancs.sch.uk
